Link had to make the decision to save himself.

Joyce
About This Quote

Link, the main character of The Legend of Zelda, had to make a decision. He had to decide whether to save himself from the evil Ganon or his sister Aryll. Link had to figure out which one was more valuable. In this quote, Link is talking about both saving himself as well as his sister.

Because he finds it more valuable to save himself from being killed by Ganon, he finds it valuable to use his powers as a hero to save his sister as well as the people she loves. Link finds that he is willing to sacrifice a part of himself in order to save a larger part of himself.
